Structures of lipoyl synthase reveal a compact active site for controlling sequential sulfur insertion reactions

Abstract: Summary Statement: The biosynthesis of lipoyl cofactors requires two lipoyl synthase mediated sulfur insertions. We report the crystal structures of a lipoyl synthase complexed with S-adenosylhomocysteine or 5'-methylthioadenosine.
