Mangiferin Has an Additive Effect on the Apoptotic Properties of Hesperidin in Cyclopia sp. Tea Extracts

Abstract: A variety of biological pro-health activities have been reported for mangiferin and hesperidin, two major phenolic compounds of Honeybush (Cyclopia sp.) tea extracts. Given their increasing popularity, there is a need for understanding the mechanisms underlying the biological effects of these compounds. In this study, we used real-time cytotoxicity cellular analysis of the Cyclopia sp. extracts on HeLa cells and found that the higher hesperidin content in non-fermented "green" extracts correlated with their hi… Show more

“…We used TaqManOne-Step RT-PCR Master MixReagents (Applied Biosystems) as described previously (Bartoszewska et al, 2013; Bartoszewski et al, 2011; Bartoszewski et al, 2014) using the manufacturer’s protocol. The relative expressions were calculated using the comparative relative standard curve method (Larionov et al, 2005).…”

“…RNA samples were stored at − 70 °C until use. For the measurement of CD39, CD73, ADA, ADORA1, ADORA2a, ADORA2b and ADORA3 mRNA expression, TaqManOne-Step RT-PCR Master MixReagents (Applied Biosystems, USA) were used as described previously [37,38] according to the manufacturer's protocol. The relative expressions were calculated using the comparative relative standard curve method [39].…”

“…We used TaqMan One-Step RT-PCR Master Mix Reagents (Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA, USA) as described previously (18)(19)(20) using the manufacturer's protocol (relative quantification; Applied Biosystems StepOnePlus Real-Time PCR System). The relative expressions were calculated using the comparative relative standard curve method (21).…”
