“…Numerous studies have shown that catechinshave anti-cancer, hypotensive, and hypocholesterolemic activities [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Consistently, inverse relationships between green tea consumption and the reduction of cancer incidence, the risk of developing hypertension, and cholesterol level have also been demonstrated in epidemiological studies.…”

“…[7][8][9] Fujisawa et al evaluated the efficacy of 'Benifuuki' green tea in alleviating Japanese cedar pollinosis which contained 5.83 mg mL −1 epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3 ′′ Me). 10 After drinking 700 mL of 'Benifuuki' green tea per day for 4 months, a significant reduction of cedar pollen allergic symptoms was observed for the patients compared with the 'Yabukita' intake group, which did not contain EGCG ′′ Me. The reason for EGCG3 ′′ Me's antiallergic effect was attributed to suppression of the release of histamine and leukotrienes from mast cells by EGCG3 ′′ Me.…”

“…In particular, methylated catechins were intensively studied as functional ingredients for reduction of allergy . Fujisawa et al evaluated the efficacy of ‘Benifuuki’ green tea in alleviating Japanese cedar pollinosis which contained 5.83 mg mL −1 epigallocatechin‐3‐ O ‐(3‐ O ‐methyl) gallate (EGCG3″Me) . After drinking 700 mL of ‘Benifuuki’ green tea per day for 4 months, a significant reduction of cedar pollen allergic symptoms was observed for the patients compared with the ‘Yabukita’ intake group, which did not contain EGCG″Me.…”

“…Compared to EGCG, EGCG3′′Me is reported to have a significantly higher bioavailability [46]. Benifuuki tea also proved to be more effective in treating allergies [47] than the common Yabukita tea, a cultivar that does not contain any methylated EGCG. …”
