“…Although uterine artery embolization (UAE) has been shown to be safe and effective for managing primary postpartum hemorrhage, women with disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) and massive transfusion are likely to have poor outcomes after UAE . In previous studies, placenta accreta, coagulation and hemostatic factors, cesarean delivery, hemorrhagic shock, blood loss volume, advanced age, and retained placenta have been associated with failure of UAE . These factors are likely to be closely related to uncontrollable hemorrhage.…”

“…5 In previous studies, placenta accreta, coagulation and hemostatic factors, cesarean delivery, hemorrhagic shock, blood loss volume, advanced age, and retained placenta have been associated with failure of UAE. [6][7][8][9] These factors are likely to be closely related to uncontrollable hemorrhage. Whereas endovascular procedures have been established as safe and efficacious for the management of obstetric hemorrhage of various etiologies, their efficacy in the management of pernicious placenta previa is less documented.…”

“…49,50,54,77 Patients with variant anatomy and prominent collateral supply such as ovarian and round ligament arteries are more likely to experience persistent hemorrhage after bilateral uterine artery embolization, as are those patients with retained placenta and advanced maternal age. 58,61,78 Future Fertility A major advantage of PAE is that it spares the uterus, allowing for future pregnancy if desired. Pregnancy rates following uterine artery embolization are comparable to age-adjusted rates in the general population.…”

“…Recently, Yamasaki et al [3] published an interesting study about "the factors associated with the failure of transcatheter pelvic arterial embolization (TAE) for intractable postpartum hemorrhage". The results reported by the authors were very significant.…”

“…Contrary to this, Yamasaki et al [3] transferred 41 patients in an emergency state with PPH from other hospitals to the department where the embolization was performed. We wonder if the failure group of patients could be reduced in case of an immediate angiographic management of PPH.…”
