Association of XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and leukemia risk: evidence from a meta-analysis

Abstract: OR = 1.59, 95% CI = 0.87-2.89, p = 0.132; TT/TC vs. CC: OR = 1.37, 95% CI = 0.98-1.94, p = 0.070). In subgroup analysis according to ethnicity, a significant association was found between XRCC3 Thr241Met (rs861539) polymorphism and leukemia risk in Asian but not in Caucasian or mixed populations. In conclusion, the results suggest no association between XRCC3 Thr241Met (rs861539) polymorphism and leukemia risk in the overall populations but a significant association between XRCC3 Thr241Met (rs861539) polymorph… Show more

“…Similar results were reported by Yan et al in a meta-analysis which included seven studies with 1070 cases and 1850 controls [ 29 ]. Yan et al found no association between XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and leukemia risk in overall populations, but significant association between XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and leukemia risk was found in Asians [ 29 ].…”

“…These results are in agreement with other studies concerning patients with breast cancer, differentiated thyroid carcinoma or chronic myeloid leukemia (4,6,16,18). Similar results were reported in a meta-analysis that included 7 studies with 1,070 patients with leukemia and 1,850 controls (19).…”

“…No direct relationship has been found between the XRCC3 gene rs861539 polymorphism and the risk of leukemia in the general population. However, studies performed in Asian populations have implicated it in the risk of incidence of leukemia [ 68 ].…”
