“…The fact that individuals with early psychosis and better neuropsychological functioning improved more quickly is consistent with the literature (Allot et al, 2013; Nuechterlein et al, 2011). Individuals in this study with higher scores on the Category Fluency test, which assesses processing speed, had faster improvement in occupational functioning than those with lower scores.…”

“…In this study, better PAL performance at baseline predicted better community functioning at 15-month follow-up, which included improvements in daily living, autonomy and social competence. In a recent study of FEPs from Melbourne assessing a wide range of cognitive abilities at baseline, visual memory and organisation (measured using the Rey Complex Figure) were the only cognitive predictors of employment duration over 6- [89] and 18-months (unpublished). Although these studies did not report change in cognitive ability, they provide evidence that preserving visuospatial memory ability may be an important first step if we wish to increase the effectiveness of cognitive intervention programs.…”

“…The aim of the current study is to extend the 6-month follow-up findings of Allott et al (2013) by investigating the contribution of neurocognition at baseline to employment outcomes in FEP over 18 months. It was hypothesized that baseline neurocognitive performance will be positively associated with the number of hours employed and employment status over 18 months.…”
