Circulating microRNAs levels in Chinese heart failure patients caused by dilated cardiomyopathy

Abstract: Patients with DCM have elevated plasma miR-423-5p levels. The plasma concentration of miR-423-5p was positively correlated with the level of NT-proBNP. Circulating levels of miR-423-5p could be served as a diagnostic biomarker for heart failure caused by DCM. Plasma levels of immunity-associated miR-146a, -155, and -126 were not significantly different between DCM and control groups.

“…However, miR-155 was found to be decreased and associated with sex, age, and diabetes in patients with stable coronary artery disease [9]. In contrast to these studies, Fan et al [16] did not demonstrate any dysregulation in the plasma level of miR-155 in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. In our study, miR-155 was found to be decreased in systolic HF patients.…”

“…Again, miR-423-5p was higher in dilated cardiomyopathy and was associated with B-type natriuretic peptide (r=0.43; P=0.003) and had a modestly strong discrimination for HF diagnosis (C-statistic, 0.67). 103 The association with natriuretic peptides and functional status in HF has been replicated for several other miRNAs in the literature. 104 For example, miR210 in peripheral mononuclear cells was noted to be higher in patients with more destabilized HF (by New York Heart Association functional class) in a study.…”

“…Upon that, we demonstrated that plasma miR-3135b, miR-3908 and miR-5571-5p might be candidate biomarkers for DCM for the first time. Fan et al [20] identified miR-423-5p as a biomarker for HF caused by DCM. However, we did not find miR-423-5p levels in DCM to differ from those in the controls.…”
