Glycemic index, glycemic load, dietary carbohydrate, and dietary fiber intake and risk of liver and biliary tract cancers in Western Europeans

Abstract: Findings suggest that higher consumption of dietary fiber and lower consumption of total sugars are associated with lower HCC risk. In addition, high dietary fiber intake could be associated with lower IBD cancer risk.

“…In addition to insulin, high blood glucose is recently proposed to be a new link between DM and cancer and it may explain how DM increases the risk of CCA [31,32]. A supra-physiological range of glucose can enhance the Wnt/b-catenin signaling pathway which activates transcription of molecules involved in the cell cycle and cell proliferation in both malignant and non-malignant cell lines (Fig.…”

“…Diabetes mellitus (DM) has been reported to be associated with risk and prognosis of many cancer types, including CCA (6,7). The molecules that bridge DM and cancer have been shown to be insulin and a high blood glucose level (8)(9)(10). Repositioning an antidiabetic compound that appears to have great potential for cancer prevention and as a cure provides a rare opportunity.…”
