“…Appendix tumoral involvement is independent of appendix macroscopic appearance and there is no correlation between appendix gross appearance and its tumoral involvement. These results differ from those of the previous few studies and were in contrast with Lin and colleagues' study which showed the dependence of gross appearance of appendix and its tumoral involvement on malignant and borderline tumors (1).…”

“…According to the data of World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank, in 2002 wars had been among the first ten reasons which killed the most and caused disabilities. Civil losses are at the rate of 90% within all losses (1). War has many negative effects on human health.…”

“…It has recently been shown that from a survival standpoint, in cases of mucinous neoplasms, appendectomy is not advantageous [6,7]. It has also been shown that in all types of BOTs, lymph node dissection or nodal involvement has no impact on recurrence or survival [3,11,21].…”

“…Many experts recommend complete surgical staging for all BOTs, regardless of the histologic type. In the case of mucinous tumors, however, such an approach might not be necessary unless additional abnormalities such as metastatic disease or pseudomyxoma peritonei exist [6,7]. Due to the lack of a current standard-of-care approach practice, each case is managed differently based on provider preference and the clinical situation.…”

“…Lin et al, in a group of 309 patients with ovarian mucinous neoplasms (197 benign; 68 low malignancy potential; and 44 malignant) with 155 appendectomies (45% of the benign group, 22% of the low malignancy potential group, and 59% of the malignant group), reported 3 synchronic appendiceal pathologies. Interestingly, there was 1 appendiceal pathology detected in each group and all of the operated appendixes looked grossly abnormal [12]. Hence, the risk of appendiceal involvement cannot be ruled out, depending on the perioperative pathological evaluation.…”
