Christina Palmer-who has done an outstanding job leading us forward over the last 6 years-I would like to start by introducing myself to you. I thought I would share with you the ideas I have for direction for the Journal, and my vision for how the Journal and the research we publish can contribute to the profession of genetic counseling more broadly. I am a tenured (first-generation) research academic at the University of British Columbia, and I am a genetic counselor. I care deeply about my chosen profession because-as I have previously described-(Austin, 2016)-I believe that as genetic counselors, wehave a valuable skillset that positions us to be able to help patients in ways that are both important and unique within the healthcare system. As a human, I am driven by a desire to make meaning (for me, this is about trying to leave things in a better situation than I found them somehow) and to connect with others. Taking on the role of Editor-in-Chief is exciting for me because it allows me opportunities for both of those things.
