{2,6-Bis[(di-tert-butylphosphino)methyl]phenyl}chloridonickel(II)

Abstract: In the title compound, [Ni(C24H43P2)Cl], the Ni atom adopts a distorted square-planar geometry, with the P atoms of the 2,6-bis[(di-tert-butylphosphino)methyl]phenyl ligand trans to one another. The P—Ni—P plane is twisted out of the plane of the aromatic ring by 21.97 (6)°.

“…The strong coupling creating this virtual triplet is indicative of the coordination of both arms of the ( R PCP)- ligand to the metal. While spectroscopic data were consistent with square-planar ( R PCP)NiCl structures with trans -spanning phosphines (as in 1a and 1d ), we recently performed a single crystal X-ray analysis on 1a to confirm its structure …”

Our primary motive in preparing the ( R PCP)NiCl salts was to convert them to the corresponding hydrides, ( R PCP)NiH (Scheme The conversions of various other metal halides containing PCP ligands to their corresponding hydrides appear in the literature and can be quite facile.…”

“…PCP-containing metallacycles are the most common representatives of nickel pincer complexes. The first example of a PCP nickel complex is {2,6-Bis[(di-tert-butylphosphino)methyl]phenyl}chloronickel ( 1 ), obtained in 1976 [ 21 ], followed by NCN pincer nickel complexes 2a and 2b ( Scheme 2 ) [ 22 , 23 , 74 , 75 ].…”

“…The title compound, (I) ( Fig. 1), was prepared from {2,6-bis[(di-tert-butylphosphino)methyl]phenyl}chloridonickel(II) (Boro et al, 2008) via a synthesis adopted from the preparation of the Pd analogue (Cámpora et al, 2004). Our research has been directed towards the activation of molecular oxygen using pincer complexes of the late transition metals (Denney et al, 2006;Keith et al, 2006).…”
