“…Selected geometrical parameters are given in Table 2. These values are against the general finding [1,28,29] that linear and symmetrical I 3 7 ions are associated with large cations, e.g. the 2-(2-pyridyl)pyridinium cation [29], in contrast with the asymmetric bent I 3 7 anions found with small asymmetric or highly charged cations.…”

“…The structure can be regarded as stacks of cation down the crystallographic a axis alternating with stacks of anions parallel to those of cations in a pseudo four fold axis: four stacks of anions surrounding one stack of cations and four stacks of cations surrounding one stack of anions ( Figure 2). There are no intermolecular interactions between cations (the shortest C Á Á Á C distance being 4.665 Å ), and the closest contact between iodide atoms in different anions is 4.651 Å for I 2 and either I2 b or I2 c [symmetry codes: (b) x, 1/2 7 y, 71/2 þ z; (c) x, 1/2 7 y, ½ þ z]; this is longer than the sums of the appropriate van der Waals radii contact distance for two iodide atoms [29,33].…”

“…However, there are also some reports on triiodide salts obtained by treatment of N- or S-donor ligands with metal halides such as LiI, CuI, AgCl, CdI 2 , SnI 2 , PbCl 2 , Hg 2 Cl 2 , SbI 3 , BiI 3 and SnI 4 . 24,26–31 For example, the reaction of BiI 3 with pyrazinethiocarboxamide and diiodine is reported to afford the salt [4A] 4 [I 3 ] 4 ·(MeCN) 3 (A: pyrazinethiocarboxamide). 31 Also for compound [Co(C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 3 ]·(I 3 ) 2 , synthesized solvothermally from Co(NO 3 ) 2 , 1,10-phenanthroline, and SnI 2 , the SnI 2 reagent served only as a source of I atoms.…”
