1D Tube, 2D Layer, and 3D Framework Derived from a New Series of Metal(II)−5-Aminodiacetic Isophthalate Coordination Polymers

Abstract: Three novel coordination polymers, [Cu 2 (adip)(H 2 O) 4 ] n ‚nH 2 O (1), [Co 3 (Hadip) 2 (H 2 O) 6 ] n ‚2nH 2 O (2), and [Zn 7 (adip) 4 -(H 2 O) 10 K 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] n ‚4nH 2 O (3), were solvothermally synthesized by adopting a new type of multicarboxylate ligand, H 4 adip (H 4 adip) 5-aminodiacetic isophthalic acid). Compound 1 features a 1D tube-like structure, compound 2 shows novel 2D (3,4)-connected nets, and compound 3 possesses an interesting 3D architecture, all of which possess channels hosting guest w… Show more

“…The bond lengths of Zn-O in the range of 2.040(4)-2.156(4) Å and Zn-N distances range from 2.198(4) to 2.245(4) Å . As expected, the sphere d orbital will be used by the six-coordinated Zn(II), therefore, the Zn-O and Zn-N distances are longer than corresponding 4-and 5-coor dinated analogs [16] but similar to those in 6-coordinated analogs [9,16]. It is noted that all assembled hexanuclear zinc complexes reported are bridged via oxo and/or 1,3-carboxylic oxygen atoms.…”

“…Hence, Sun et al have introduced a methylene group between benzene ring and terminal carboxylic group on H 3 btc and obtained cobalt(II) and Nickel(II) complexes with the flexible 1,3,5-benzenetriacetic acid (H 3 bta) [8]. In addition, Hong et al utilized a flexible iminodiacetic group to displace one of three carboxylic groups on the H 3 btc, and three coordination polymers involved Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) ions assembled from this ligand were reported [9].…”

“…Rigid and negatively charged ligands are in general favored for the construction of coordination polymers, because it is relatively easier to design product structures and to acquire crystals of X-ray diffraction quality using rigid ligands [20,21], and negatively charged ligands are considered to provide strong coordination bonds with metal centers [4,22,23].…”

“…To date, some MOFs possessing neoteric structures with ligands incorporating the IDA moiety have been reported. [9] However, little effort has been spent on studying multi-iminodiacetic ligands.…”
