Abstract:Exposing bovine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COC) to heat shock during in vitro maturation (IVM) reduces oocyte developmental competence. Melatonin has been reported to improve cleavage of heat-shocked oocytes after fertilization. The current study examined whether protective activity of melatonin is associated with nuclear or cytoplasmic maturation events, or both. The COC were aspirated from Holstein ovaries collected at an abattoir and randomly divided into 3 experimental groups. The control COC were matured (… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
