15.3: Invited Paper: Volume Holographic Components for Display Applications

Abstract: Volume holographic components are being used to enhance the performance of a variety of liquid crystal and projection display systems. Holographic components address the ever-present need within display systems for more efficient light management. With proper design, holographic components address this need with higher light throughput, reduced thickness and weight, reduced energy consumption, and additional opportunities for unique system functions. This paper describes design parameters and examples of impro… Show more

“…In order to solve this problem, the screen must separate the projected light from the ambient light and only diffuse the projected light to the observers. Several methods have been proposed to improve the contrast ratio of front-projection displays by suppressing the reflection of the ambient light by using different polarization methods, 2 spectra, 3,4 or incident directions between the projector and ambient light. 5,6 As for the former two methods, screens which reflect only one type of polarized light or narrow red, green, and blue spectra adjusted to the projector can be used.…”
