13.18: Advanced analysis of braced steel frames: Modelling accounting for the post‐limit behaviour of compressed angle braces

Abstract: This paper presents a method of advanced analysis applied to steel plane load bearing systems like trusses as well as unbraced and braced frames. The effects of both material and geometrical nonlinearities on the structural behaviour are studied together with tracing the whole range of truss member behaviour. In the braced frameworks, the truss bracing model accounts for the effect of post-limit behaviour on the inelastic redistribution of forces in frame members. Details of finite element incremental stiffnes… Show more

“…Let us consider the Mises truss sensitive to the so-called elastic snap-through buckling and requiring to take into consideration the influence of member prebuckling displacements on the truss buckling state. The truss was investigated in [16] for study the effect of truss member imperfections and joint DIRECT DESIGN AND ASSESSMENT OF THE LIMIT STATES OF STEEL... connection types on the truss ultimate limit state. One of the truss initial configurations is considered hereafter but with different loading conditions in order to show the implementation of proposed limit states assessment algorithm presented in subsection 2.2.…”
