Abstract: Learning Objectives: Background: Achalasia is an esophageal motility disorder characterized by absence of esophageal peristalsis and impaired relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). It can lead to severe esophageal dilation and compression of the posterior aspect of trachea. Respiratory distress and respiratory failure can follow.
