However, its linguistic heterogeneity and the significant number of French and Provenc Ëal elements mean that it cannot be unequivocally considered`early Piedmontese' (see Wolf 1991, Danesi 1991, Gasca Queirazza 1995: 102 and 1996. Nevertheless, given that the semantic extension of the reflexive to include middle and passive meanings is a Romance rather than a specifically Piedmontese phenomenon, the Sermoni may usefully serve as a point of departure for our survey.…”
