Abstract: BackgroundA majority of healthcare-associated urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by the use of urinary catheters (CAUTI). Finding of bacteriuria is common in catheterized patients and often leads to unnecessary antibiotic treatment, increased length of stay and additional healthcare costs.
