1120 nm kHz-linewidth single-polarization single-frequency Yb-doped phosphate fiber laser

Abstract: A spectrally clean kHz-linewidth single-polarization single-frequency distributed Bragg reflector Yb-doped phosphate fiber (YPF) laser at 1120 nm (> 1100 nm) for the first time is demonstrated. By enhancing the reflectivity of output fiber Bragg grating and optimizing the length of YPF to implement the effective ASE suppression and single-longitudinal-mode long-wavelength lasing, a stable output power of over 62 mW is achieved from a 31-mm-long highly YPF with a linewidth of 5.7 kHz. The signal to noise ratio … Show more

“…Besides the typical lasing wavelength at 1064 nm, Yb 3+ -doped phosphate fibers have been successfully exploited to obtain single-frequency operation at more exotic wavelengths [20,70,71], thanks to the broad Yb 3+ emission from 970 to 1200 nm.…”

“…In addition to single-frequency fiber lasers operating at the 1.5 μm band, several single-frequency fiber lasers at the 1 μm band developed with highly Yb 3+ -doped phosphate fibers were reported [22][23][24][25]. Over 400 mW single-frequency laser output at 1.06 μm was achieved from a 0.8-cm long 15.2 wt% Yb 3+ -doped phosphate fiber [22].…”

“…Q-switched single-frequency laser operation at repetition rates tunable from several Hz to up to 700 kHz was demonstrated. In 2016, a singlefrequency Yb 3+ fiber laser operating at a wavelength longer than 1100 nm was demonstrated with a 3.1-cm long 15.2 wt% Yb 3+ -doped phosphate fiber [24]. More than 62 mW single-frequency laser output with a linewidth of 5.7 kHz was obtained.…”

“…In fact, the majority of such lasers are based on a short Fabry-Perot cavity of only a few centimeters long, which is the fundamental requirement for the generation of a single longitudinal mode in it [1]. To ensure the efficient absorption of pump radiation in such short laser cavities, active optical fibers with a relatively high concentration of active ions in the glass core are used [2,3]. Slope efficiency of SFLs typically does not exceed 30% [4].…”
