The lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated TNF-a production as measured in supernatants from whole-blood cultures was significantly decreased [1]. In his commentary, Dr Gleeson sheds doubt on the results and argues that, in his opinion, measuring cytokines in supernatants harvested from whole-blood cultures is unphysiological [2].…”
