1064 nm Nd:YAG long pulse laser after polidocanol microfoam injection dramatically improves the result of leg vein treatment: A randomized controlled trial on 517 legs with a three-year follow-up

Abstract: The method leads to safe, fast and apparently permanent results. The treatment session lasts less than 1 h, and could become a first-choice treatment for the removal of all types of varicose veins with a diameter under 4 mm.

“…Unfortunately, only a limited number of studies have compared the safety and efficacy of TCL with sclerotherapy, the current standard of care for C1 stage 19,58–61 . Among the several laser modalities, the neodymium‐doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is the most thoroughly investigated 58–63 . Several studies have compared Nd:YAG laser with sclerotherapy 58,60,61 .…”

“…Parlar et al and Lupton et al found that treatment with Nd:YAG laser was significantly more painful and required more sessions compared with treatment with sclerotherapy 58,62 . The emergence of a combination method may eliminate the need to choose between TCL and sclerotherapy, as these two treatment options can be combined in order to achieve superior outcomes 59,63,64 . Moreno‐Morega et al offered combined treatment for leg telangiectasias and reticular veins that included injections of polidocanol microfoam followed by application of 1065 nanometer (nm) Nd:YAD laser in two consecutive sessions.…”

“…Согласно выводам работ некоторых авторов, наиболее целесообразно использовать комбинированное лечение, включающее как склеротерапию, так и трансдермальный лазер [8,9]. Сочетание повреждающих эндотелий факторов -склерозанта и лазерного фототермолиза улучшает результаты лечения.…”
