Show more

“…Faced with this issue, we cannot give the school responsibility for something that seems, a priori, to be greater than this institution. Concerning this issue, the results presented in the axis find support in the study by Vilanova et al (2018), which discusses, even if indirectly, the characteristics of right-wing authoritarianism in Brazil. This study shows that even people who state they are not pro any party have a high degree of authoritarianism in the Brazilian context.…”

“…The political orientation was answered with a 3-point question: left-wing, center, or the right-wing. Another instrument used was the Right-Wing Authoritarianism scale (RWA; RMSEA = 0.069, 90% CI [0.065, 0.072]; CFI = 0.96; TLI = 0.95; Vilanova et al, 2018 ), of which, only 20 items were applied (5-point Likert scale) corresponding to the factors of authoritarianism (α = 0.888; ω = 0.891) and traditionalism (α = 0.839; ω = 0.837), as the most informative and discriminative factors in Brazil, according to the authors, to evaluate authoritarianism and traditionalist conservatism, respectively. Traditionalism is best understood in Brazil as traditionalist conservatism, a construct associated with conservatism of manners.…”

“…It is a 34-item self-report measure that assess authoritarianism stemming from beliefs associated with the political right-wing (Duckitt et al 2010, adapted to the Brazilian context by Vilanova et al 2018), in a Likert scale ranging from 1 (totally disagree) to 5 (totally agree), with items such as "The way things are going in this country, severe measures will be needed to straighten out the bad guys, the criminals and the perverts". In the present study, two of the highest factor loading items from each factors were used, presenting an adequate internal consistency: Authoritarianism (AT, α = .69), Contestation to Authority (CA, α = .75), Traditionalism (TD, α = .86), and Submission to Authority (SA, α = .78), and good convergent validity with social-dominance orientation (SDO) (AT: r = .36, p < .001; CA: r = .24, p < .001; TD: r = .42, p < .001, SA: r = .30, p < .001).…”
