Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on the state of entrepreneurship research in the Latin American context, with special emphasis on international entrepreneurship research developed in this region. Therefore, the aim and contribution are to identify the main themes in the literature about entrepreneurship and show the evolution of entrepreneurship research in Latin America to stimulate the research and provide future research lines. Design/methodology/approach The methodology is based in a systematic literature review, using 128 articles published between 2002 and 2018, in scientific journals in the region according to SCImago Journal & Country Rank. Findings The results show the evolution through the journals, authors, topics and methodologies used by the researchers. It is emphasized that there is a very low level of research in international entrepreneurship in Latin America. This result is coherent with higher levels of entrepreneurship in Latin American countries but very few oriented to international markets. This is one of the challenges considering the importance of this field. Originality/value Entrepreneurship is a field of study that has grown throughout history. Even so, in the Latin American context, research published in high impact journals is limited. This paper is the first systematic literature review and thematic analysis of research on the field of entrepreneurship in the Latin American context. In this way, it serves as encouragement for future research, providing possibilities and challenges within the field of study.

The main objective of the study is to develop and test a model that emphasizes the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and managerial capacity (MC) to the performance of dairy farms. This article also examines the effect of these variables on performance expectations as well as the succession planning of farms. Cross-sectional data were collected out of a sample of 158 dairy farmers in 2017 in Brazil. A path analysis approach has been applied to validate the hypothesized model. Results show that between EO dimensions, innovativity has the greatest impact on performance as well as on MC. MC is not significantly related to the current performance on dairy farms, but it is so to the performance expectation, which in turn has an impact on the succession planning of farms. The age of the farmers moderates the relations hypothesized in the model, especially between innovativity, proactivity, and MC in the farms’ performance.

EVOLUÇÃO DA PRODUÇÃO CIENTÍFICA EM EMPREENDEDORISMO RURAL: UM ESTUDO BIBLIOMÉTRICOO artigo tem como objetivo realizar análise do panorama das publicações sobre empreendedorismo rural por meio de um estudo bibliométrico. Para tanto, o estudo realizou a análise de 417 artigos publicados na plataforma Web of Science ligados ao tópico "empreendedorismo rural" na língua inglesa, traçando a evolução das publicações por meio de análises de citações e de co-citações em todos os artigos publicados na plataforma. Esse método possibilitou a identificação das obras mais influentes com a finalidade de entendimento dos laços intelectuais e evolução de pesquisa sobre o tema proposto ao longo do tempo. Os resultados obtidos possibilitaram a identificação dos autores mais citados, formação de quatro cluster de autores que trabalham com o tema empreendedorismo rural, teorias que apontam que o campo de pesquisa está em ascensão e que o uso do termo "empreendedorismo rural" vem crescendo no meio acadêmico e se consolidando.
