“…We were also not able to strictly control and exclude hypertensive patients, since hypertension can also cause arteriolar remodeling to a certain extent by means of reactive oxygen species, which may act as a confounder. However, all our hypertensive patients were well‐controlled with antihypertensive medications for more than six months, as reflected by the similarities in systolic blood pressures, which is important since previous studies have shown that the use of antihypertensive medications have the effect of reversing microvascular rarefaction to levels approaching normal values and improving microvascular endothelial function following blood pressure normalization for six months . Otherwise, our study subjects were well matched and homogenously selected, and the reproducibility of the tests was well controlled, with tests being performed by a single operator using a standardized protocol to reduce inter‐ and intra‐observer variability.…”
