Aim: To find out the prevalence and intensity of non-specific, mechanical low back pain (LBP) among traffic wardens and security guards. Study design: A Cross sectional study was designed and data collection was done by convenient sampling. Place and duration: The sample was collected from the traffic wardens and security guards from Cantt area and Johar Town, Lahore from 15th September 2021 to 10th December 2021. Methodology: After approval of from ethical committee the data collection was started. Informed consent was taken. A sample of 200 participants including security guards (SCG) and traffic wardens (TW) meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria after consent filled a questionnaire about the prevalence of low back pain (LBP). Visual analogue scale and MC Gill pain questionnaire were used. SPSS version 21 was used for data analysis. Data was analyzed in form of frequencies, means, standard deviation and bar charts. Results: The mean age of participants was 32±5.64. Males were 160(80%) in number and 40(20%) were females. The prevalence of LBP was 81.5%. Majority of participants had mild to moderate levels of pain severity (49.8%). Independent sample T test showed significant difference in pain severity between both SCG and TW. (p=0.01; p<0.05). Conclusion: There was high prevalence of Low back pain in security guards and traffic wardens. Mild to moderate intensity of pain was reported in majority of participants. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) related to occupational work or termed as WMSDs are the most common health issues that are experienced by many workers. Either due to the human errors or inconvenient and faulty workplaces, this illness has caused both employers and employees great economic losses. However, when observing the prevalence of MSDs among motorcyclists, again the focus was put among those that use motorcycles during their duties making it very much work-related. For example, police riders, postal delivery workers, and currently food delivery services. But how about those non-occupational motorcyclists or commuting workers or students that only use their motorcycle to commute to work, riding to class or weekend-motorcyclists going for prolonged motorcycle rides? Upon this matter, it became the motivation of this study to look into the possibilities of MSDs prevalence especially related to muscle fatigue among these groups of motorcyclists based on a survey and indoor prolonged motorcycle riding simulations that were conducted earlier. This includes how education and proper training could help them to reduce the risk of experiencing MSDs. Outcomes of this study suggested several other MSD issues that are possible to take place involving other body regions and establishing a prolonged riding guideline could educate them to be more aware of this issue. These possible MSDs were found to not being highlighted in work-related MSDs literature with respect to motorcyclists and very few detailed guidelines are available to educate motorcyclists for a much safer prolonged riding which provide gaps for further investigation and validation. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Musculoskeletal symptoms are considered one of the major health problems among police officers. However, no study has synthesized the frequency of these disorders in different parts of the body in this population. The study aimed to describe the frequency of musculoskeletal symptoms in different body regions of the police officers. CONTENTS: A search was conducted in the electronic databases Pubmed/Medline, Web of Science, LILACS, and Scielo, as well as a manual search in the references of the articles. Ten of the 4025 possible studies found were included, which reported different types of musculoskeletal symptoms frequency in different body regions and periods. The frequency of musculoskeletal symptoms within 12 months ranged from 42-52% for the lower back, 34-43% for the knees, 7-32% for the shoulders, 7-27% for the wrists/hands/fingers, 29-42% for the neck, 18-28% for ankle/foot, 8-10% for elbow, 22-45% for upper back and 12-18% for hip/thigh. CONCLUSION: The frequency of musculoskeletal symptoms in police officers was high, especially in the lumbar, dorsal, knee, neck, and shoulder regions. Preventive measures such as physical activity and ergonomic adaptations to reduce these symptoms in this population are necessary.
