Fireworks industries are very old, unorganized cottage industries in West Bengal mainly confined in South 24 Parganas. The present investigation was intended to investigate the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among the workers and to identify the causative factors behind it. In this present study, 152 male fireworks workers from different age groups and 100 control subjects were investigated. Modified Nordic questionnaires were used to identify the region-wise disorders. The Hand Grip strength of both groups was also estimated. Among the fireworks workers posture related musculoskeletal disorders were severely observed in the lower back which was aggravated with the advancement of age and working experience. Pain and stiffness were also reported in the neck, upper back, wrist, elbow, knee and ankle. A lower backrest with support at the lumber region is strongly recommended. 1 Perfil de sinais e sintomas osteomoleculares relacionados ao trabalho em odontologia: avaliação dos professores da clínica odontológica da Universidade Vale do Rio Verde (UninCor) RESUMO | A prática da odontologia submete o profissional a fatores de risco que, quando não aplicadas formas de prevenção, levam ao desenvolvimento de lesões de distúrbios osteomusculares relacionados ao trabalho (DORT). Objetivo: o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a incidência de DORT em professores da clínica odontológica da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Vale do Rio Verde (UninCor) do campus de Três Corações (MG). Materiais e métodos: 35 docentes odontólogos da clínica de odontologia da UninCor responderam a um questionário sobre DORT relacionados à profissão docente de cirurgiões-dentistas. Resultados: a média de trabalho entre os participantes seria de 9,87 horas por dia e 48,4 horas por semana. Dos indivíduos participantes, apenas dois não tinham conhecimento de DORT, A maioria dos participantes apresentaram um ou mais sintomas relacionados a DORT, sendo que dois apresentavam no início do dia e 18 ao final. Apenas quatro dos profissionais realizam exercícios para prevenção, apesar de 17 terem conhecimento da existência deles. O sintoma mais frequente na amostra foi tensão ou dor muscular. Conclusões: conclui-se que a elevada presença de sintomas de DORT em cirurgiões-dentistas está relacionada ao estilo de vida e à ausência de formas de prevenção na rotina desses profissionais. Only four professionals perform exercises for prevention, although 17 are aware of the existence of such exercises. The most frequent symptom found in the sample was muscle tension or pain. Insights about Dental Ergonomics among Dental Students: The Need of the Hour to Recommend Dental Ergonomics in Academic Curriculum

Aims and Objectives: To assess the perception, practice, and attitude about dental ergonomics among dental students in Chennai. Materials and Methods:The study was carried out among 148 dental students in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, using a selfmade validated closed-ended questionnaire.Results: Among 148 dental students, 75 (50.6%) were undergraduate and 73 (49.4%) were postgraduate students. Of the study population, 38 (25.67%) had listed their general health problems which they thought were related to their profession, 102 (68.5%) were aware of musculoskeletal disorders, 90 (60.4%) were aware of dental ergonomics, and 104 (69.8%) were not aware of dental ergonomics. Of the dental students, 55% practiced both sitting and standing dentistry, and 43% of them practiced sitting dentistry alone. Only 22.8% of the dental students practiced 4-handed dentistry and 38.3% of them, who did not practice 4-handed dentistry swiveled themselves to face the area. A total of 113 (75.8%) dental students suggest to include dental ergonomics in their academic curriculum and 94 (63.1%) wanted to practice workshops on dental ergonomics. Conclusions:A majority of the dental students in this present study were aware of musculoskeletal disorders and dental ergonomics, but only a considerable number of them practiced dental ergonomics. This study recommends the need for including dental ergonomics in the academic curriculum.
