Are PTH levels related to oxidative stress and inflammation in chronic kidney disease patients on hemodialysis?

“…This progressive pathophysiological process is attributed to uremia, which leads to a decrease in the proportion of contractile tissue in the sarcomere and, consequently, contractile inefficiency [4,8,28]. In the present study, the PF parameters of dialysis patients declined by more than 10% when compared to predicted values reported in the literature (Table 2), corroborating prior research [19,29].…”

“…The parameters assessed were distance walked, respiratory rate (RR), blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), oxygen saturation (SpO2) and degree of dyspnea and fatigue by the Modified Borg Scale. The vital signs were measured before the test and in the first and second minute after its completion [18,19]. The predicted distance walked (%) in the 6MWT was calculated using the equation for the Brazilian population developed by Britto [20].…”

“…Therefore, the reduction in inflammation in HD patients after calcitriol oral administration is unlikely to be due to improvement in PTH level. However, the results of another descriptive study suggested that the oxidative stress and inflammation of HD patients might have arisen from mechanisms other than SHPT [ 33 ].…”

“…Patients at the end-stage renal disease have higher levels of oxidative stress and inflammation than the normal population. Several factors contributed to these issues, wherein the parathyroid hormone is also implicated [ 33 ]. Consistent with these studies, higher levels of inflammatory markers ( i.e.…”

Entretanto, os pacientes dialíticos mostraram importante comprometimento da capacidade funcional física.REFERÊNCIASATS -Committee on Proficiency Standards for Clinical Pulmonary Function Laboratories.ATS statement: guidelines for the six-minute walk test.…”
