The successful management of product incompatibility remains a challenge. Therefore, the study aims to analyze the possibilities of effective management through qualitative analyses. The sequence of two quality management techniques added to the fluorescent method was proposed. These techniques were the Ishikawa diagram and the 5Why method. For a specific incompatibility example identified by using the penetration tests (the fluorescent method), the causes of these incompatibilities were searched using the Ishikawa diagram and the 5Why method. An analysis example was the linear indication problem on the product surface, the gasodynamic sealer. By supplementing the penetration method, the proposed sequence of selected quality management techniques has shown that it is possible to detect incompatibilities and identify the source cause, also. In turn, finding the source cause can allow proposing the improvement actions. The proposed solution can also be used in other quality problems and other enterprises to improve the production processes.

Este artigo tem o objetivo de relatar a experiência do uso do arco de Maguerez na reorganização dos processos de acolhimento, escuta inicial qualificada e classificação de risco da demanda espontânea odontológica de uma Unidade Básica de Saúde do Distrito Federal. As cinco etapas do arco, que são a observação da realidade, apontamento dos pontos-chave, teorização, sugestão de hipóteses de solução e aplicação à realidade, foram realizadas pelos profissionais da equipe de Saúde Bucal da unidade nos meses de abril a junho de 2021. Observou-se que os fatores mais impactantes na organização dos fluxos de abordagem da demanda espontânea odontológica estavam relacionados à capacitação e à atuação dos profissionais. A utilização da metodologia do arco de Maguerez para visualização e abordagem de problemas na Atenção Primária à Saúde mostrou-se relevante para qualificar os processos de trabalho e, consequentemente, elevar a qualidade dos serviços de saúde pública ofertados à população.

Improving a Manufacturing Process Using the 8Ds Method. A Case Study in a Manufacturing Company

Customer satisfaction is a key element for survival and competitiveness in industrial companies. This paper describes a case study in a manufacturing company that deals with several customer complaints due to defective custom cable assemblies that are integrated in an engine. The goal of this research is to find a solution to this problem, as well as prevent its recurrence by implementing the eight disciplines (8Ds) method in order to: (1) develop a team, (2) describe the problem, (3) develop an interim containment action, (4) determine and verify root causes, (5) develop permanent corrective actions, (6) define and implement corrective actions, (7) prevent recurrences, and (8) recognize and congratulate teamwork as well as individual contributions. Therefore, a software tool is proposed to conduct a functional test on assembly lines. After the test, the problem was successfully reduced and detected, because from 67 engines that were identified with problems, 51 were redesigned before being sent to customers, consequently decreasing the number of defective products by 75%, whereas the remaining 16 engines were replaced by new engines. In conclusion, the research goal was accomplished, and the 8Ds method proved to be a helpful model with which to increase employees’ motivation and involvement during the problem-solving process.
