Optical coherence tomography angiography artifactual choroidal neovascularization in optic disc pit maculopathy

Abstract: This case report describes a 19-year-old Caucasian man presented with decreased visual acuity in the right eye for 3 months. Dilated funds exam revealed optic disk pit associated with serous macular detachment. Optical coherence tomography identified communication between the optic disk pit and the macular serous detachment, and optical coherence tomography angiography displayed a subfoveal area suggestive of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization. However, there was no evidence of leakage in the fluorescein a… Show more

“…Optical coherence tomography angiography should be used in further studies of ODP and other optic nerve anomalies to improve the understanding of the anatomical and functional impacts of these diseases. Other reports have shown the utility of using OCTA to monitor optic nerve capillary dropout 17 and evaluate for the presence of choroidal neovascularization 18 in ODP eyes. Additional research evaluating the impact of peripapillary vascular dropout on nerve fiber layer structure and visual field function would be beneficial in elucidating the pathophysiology of ODP.…”
