O estudo aprese… Show more

“…Serpe et al (2018) point out that the waste that occurs during forest harvesting needs to be measured. Vatraz and Borges (2014) state that incorrect information on the volumetric estimate of wood may harm the managerial results.…”

“…However, some authors mention the limitations in estimating forest areas in satellite images for national inventories level [10,17]. According to the study of [18], the sampling method used to determine the volume per hectare of Pinus taeda plantation was efficient and reliable; however, the error in the stand area was responsible for a 13.84% increase in the estimated volume, thus demonstrating the importance of a consistent cartographic basis [17]. For this reason, [16] suggested that if the number of trees in the stands was known, the average volume of trees in the plots could be extrapolated by the total number of trees, reducing the inventory error.…”

“…In post-harvest measurement, felled timber volume is quantified using calculations derived from woodpiles located on the edges of the logging site or, in some cases on the backs of transporting trucks, or in company storage yards. In all cases woodpile volume is calculated by one of two metrics: apparent volume -calculated via the stacking ratio (sr), or cubed or geometric volumes -calculated in cubic meters (m 3 ) (AZEVÊDO et al, 2014;VATRAZ;BORGES, 2014). The problem is that trunks are round, not square, in cross section.…”
