Polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) mediated synthesis of quinoxalines

Abstract: A simple and highly efficient protocol for the synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives from various ortho-phenylenediamines with α-halo ketones under catalyst free conditions is reported by using polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as an efficient recyclable medium without using any organic co-solvent or additive. This protocol gives wide range of quinoxaline derivatives with high yields. α-Halo ketones o-Phenylenediamines QuinoxalinesCatalyst-free Polyethylene glycol PEG-400

“…Moreover, PEG is inexpensive, easy to handle, thermally stable, non-toxic, and recyclable media. Thus, PEG-400 has emerged as an efficient catalyst for various chemical transformations (Chhanda & Tapaswi, 2008;Nagaraju et al, 2015;Nagarapu, Raghu, & Lingappa, 2010;Upendra et al, 2012;Xiaokang, Tangjun, Yu, & Junmin, 2014). We report the synthesis of biologically active benzimidazole derivatives under catalyst-free conditions using PEG-400 as an eco-friendly and recyclable reaction medium.…”

“…Ecofriendly syntheses of quinoxalines utilizing Nano-BF 3 .SiO 2 catalyst [12], zirconium (IV) oxide chloride octahydrate catalyst [13], and catalytic magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles in water [14] were reported. Green syntheses of quinoxalines, using PEG-400 [15], PEG-600/water [16], and PEG-400/microwave irradiation [17,18] were reported. Recently, an efficient ecofriendly synthesis of biologically active quinoxalines using easily recyclable TiO 2 /SO 4 2-and microwave irradiation was reported [19Á21].…”
