Objective: Elaborate, validate and test the intra and inter-expert reliability of observational scales for the examination of the volleyball techniques, floating serve with support, simple offensive blocking and underhand defense. Methods: Sixteen coaches of the brazilian national volleyball team with more than ten years of practice in this sport, participated in the validation. Each coach evaluated five actions of each volleyball technique, performed by five federated volleyball athletes. Multiple Kappa test (KM) was used for statistical analysis of inter and intra-expert agreement strength and the significance level adopted was p <0.05. Results: The three scales obtained agreement indexes (≥87.5%) for content validity. Regarding intra-expert reliability, the results demonstrated that the observational, blocks, and defense scales had good agreement strength (0.40≤KM≤0.59). Regarding the inter-expert reliability, the observational scales serve (KM=0.75) and defense (KM=0.66) presente very good agreement strength and the observational scale block (KM=0.82) obtained excellent concordance strength. Conclusions: The scales are reliable and suitable for the analysis of motor skills floating serve with support, simple offensive blocking and underhand defense.

DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1980-0037.2016v18n3p362 The aim of this study was to verify the influence of the technical skills level on the decision making of novice volleyball players on service, reception and set actions. The sample was composed of 80 novice athletes of school volleyball teams of both sexes. Based on the results from the Volleyball Skills Test Battery, the sample was divided into three groups: low, intermediate and high technical level, by means of One-Way ANOVA. The intermediate group was excluded from further analyses. Decision making was assessed with the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI). For data analysis purposes, the independent student-t test was used, adopting significance level of p≤0.05. The results showed that players with low skill level in service and set actions also had lower performance on the decision-making test when compared to players with high technical level. On the other hand, in the reception action, no differences were found among groups. It was therefore concluded that the technical level seems to influence the decision making in service and set actions in novice volleyball players.
PurposeThis study aims to verify the evidence of content, concurrent criterion validity, and reliability in a <i>chassè</i> checklist.MethodsFirst, 3 judges measured 11 items of the checklist based on the Likert scale, varying from 1 (not at all) to 5 (very much clear, pertinent, and representative), for the content evidence validity. In the second stage, 91 girls (12 ± 2.09 years old) were evaluated while performing the skill; 51 of them were skilled and 40 were novice in polka type chassè (concurrent evidence). Concerning reliability, 3 evaluators analysed the videos of 5 volunteers while performing polka type chassè at 2 different times, with an interval of 1 week between evaluations.ResultsAfter the first stage, 1 item presented the content validity coefficient of 0.56 and it was reformulated as well as the skill was renamed to polka type chassè. The second assessment presented clear, pertinent, and representative items of the instrument. The reliability was considered appropriate by the inter-judge intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.83 and the lowest intra-judge ICC of 0.80. Lastly, concurrent evidence was better when it came to skilled participants than novice ones related to polka type <i>chassè</i>.ConclusionsIn general, the results indicated content and concurrent validity and reliability evidence. The instrument can be useful for physical education teachers as well as gymnastics coaches.
