“… Arnason et al (2004) reported teams with higher fitness levels and lower body fat percentages had a higher league ranking. Our study found higher height, weight, and BMI values compared to those reported by Canhadas et al (2010) for young Brazilian male athletes and higher BMIs than those reported by Gravina et al (2008) . Results observed herein were higher for height and weight compared to those reported by Di Luigi et al (2006) in Italian soccer players, but lower for BMI in categories over 14 years.…”

“…Youth growth follows a normal pattern for age [17]. However, differences in height, weight and body fat mass in relation to the playing position have already been described [18], noticing that there are significant differences during the development process that have an impact on playing position performance.…”

“…The literature review regarding soccer players indicated significant differences in anthropometric measures across playing positions [1,7,8,13,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28], as well between age categories [17,18,19,27,28,29,30,31,32,33]. This positional specificity does not seem to be unique to an age group, and regarding this knowing the pattern for the different positions allows practices to be individually tailored, in order to develop specific attributes and optimize the players’ performance.…”

“…Since there is a relationship especially between body height and many physical and physiological characteristics, these display significant effects on exercise and certain games (Docherty, 1996). Regular exercise has positive effects on children's somatotype classifications and anthropometric characteristics (Berg et al, 1995) and suitable anthropometric profile and body composition for physical activity are important (Canhadas et al, 2010). Identification of somatotype during childhood is extremely important for skills selection because determining the body shape makes it possible for the emergence of children's tendency in the sports branch to be participated in the future and competing in an advantageous position in terms of displaying a high performance.…”
