Show more

“…These results can be explained by the low clay content in the soil, providing a naturally high density (Marcolin and Klein, 2011). Moreover, consecutive preparation operations of the soil for the rice crop, often under conditions of high water content in the soil, favors the soil compression process (Moraes et al, 2013), raising the BD and thus reducing the PT.…”

“…The crop management followed the recommendations of EMBRAPA TA B L E 1 Sites, growing seasons, Köppen's climate classification, sowing dates, cultivars and their maturity groups, and plant population (PP) for DSSAT-CSM-CROPGRO-Soybean calibration and evaluation phases (Table S1; Marcolin & Klein, 2011;Reichert et al, 2009).…”

“…Such increase of density due to management is directly linked to the reduction of macroporosity in subsurface layers (Viana, Batista, Tormena, Costa, & Inoue, 2011), which corroborates the fact that the reduction in macroporosity is inversely proportional to the increase in soil density. The relative soil density (Figure 4), for being a ratio between soil density in the worst state of compaction and soil density in the natural state, clearly reflects the variations of soil density in the natural state (Marcolin & Klein, 2011). It can be noted that soil density in the natural state, when high, may limit root development and the more degraded the soil structure, the more the relative soil density will approach the value 1, which reflects the worst density possible.…”
