“…cardiologist, dietitian, and SLT) specialist monitoring, and hypercaloric formula intake (see Appendix B) can reproduce the outcomes found in the British pilot data. 17 However, considering that in Brazil we have a greater nutritional deficit in infants than in the UK, 17 , 25 we predict that the benefits will be even wider in a low-income population, with limited access to nutritional and SLT expert care pre-surgery. 26 In addition, we hope that the results can be used for the formulation of Brazilian guidelines of comprehensive nutritional pre-surgical care for children with CHD, for public policies related to access to hypercaloric formulas to low-income high-risk children.…”

“…18,19 The presence of malnutrition in studied patients increased the chance of mortality 4 times, reinforcing negative effects of malnutrition that are widely documented in the literature as factors of morbimortality in cardiovascular surgery. [18][19][20][21] The described association may be explained by the postoperative metabolic response, characterized by altered energetic demands, complex inflammatory status and higher protein catabolism, 3,22 added to malnutrition, which can by itself impair the results of the corrective surgery. 19 Thus, postoperative nutritional diagnosis in cardiovascular surgeries allows for early therapeutic intervention, decreasing risks of postoperative complications.…”

“…2 Around 80% of children with cardiovascular diseases need surgical intervention, whether corrective or palliative. 3 The evolution of surgical techniques enabled higher rate of survival, whereas the presence of malnutrition in these patients increases the risk of complications in the postoperative period due to higher metabolic demand. 4 Nutritional status represents an important role in the incidence of morbidity and mortality in the postoperative period.…”

“…El estado nutricional del paciente antes de ser hospitalizado es indicado como un factor de riesgo de desnutrición hospitalaria (Abahuje et al, 2020;Bhirommuang et al, 2019;de Souza et al, 2020;Lovera Montilla & Cáceres Villota, 2023;Ortiz-Beltrán et al, 2020) Muchos pacientes que son ingresados al hospital llegan con niveles de desnutrición altos o con riesgo alto (Cuong et al, 2018;Rinninella et al, 2018).…”
