Abstract:Ischemic stroke and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are considered cardiovascular diseases (CVD).Their pathophysiology is mostly associated with rupture or detachment of atherosclerotic plaques and clots in vessels, which can lead to occlusion of the arterial lumen and consequent obstruction of blood flow in the brain or heart. 1 CVDs have high incidence and mortality rates. In Brazil, about 388,000 people died from CVD in 2017, and they are the main cause of death in Brazil and worldwide.
