Performance Measures in STEMI after COVID-19 Pandemic: Results from the RECUIMA Registry

Abstract

Since the first description of COVID-19 as a pandemic, in early 2020, health systems indicators of performance changed, and these were not good changes. [1][2][3] Several diseases have had their prevalence rates, their symptoms, and their intrinsic risks modified 4, 5 and heart diseases were no different. [6][7][8] During this event, a significant decline in hospitalization for cardiovascular events was observed during the government-enforced lockdowns in several countries. 9,10 In this same country, a multicentric study showed that several performance measures were under accomplished in some centers, while in others, they seemed to be over fulfilled. 11 The analysis of a particular network reported that COVID-19 has negatively impacted the care of ST-segment Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients and care givers in low / middle income settings should continuously monitor these markers in order to detect an early variation in trends. 12
