Cinema and the Arts: Reassessing Theodor Adorno’s Late Work

Abstract: This paper starts from a revision of Adorno’s late work, in particular his remarks on cinema, published in the 1960s. Our hypothesis is that cinema acquires relevance in Adorno’s late work not only through a shift in his position regarding that medium itself, but rather due to a broader transformation in his aesthetic position, encompassing a distinct view on the procedures of modern art and the complex relations between the different artistic genres.
