Impact of an asthma management program on hospitalizations and emergency department visits

Abstract: Objectives: To assess the frequency of hospitalizations and emergency department visits of children and adolescents before and after the enrolment in an asthma program.Methods: Medical records of 608 asthmatics younger than 15 years were assessed retrospectively. These large number of patients up used the available facilities and waste of sources in ER (16,17,18,19,20) Fortunate according to the our National Asthma Education Program 80% of asthma patients they classified as mild asthma and these patients would obtain relief by using rescue MDI bronchodilators at home. A substantial number of our patients used ER as easy way to access their asthma management instead of home management according to the national guidelines.…”
