Feasibility of DLLME for the Extraction and Preconcentration of As and Cd in Sugar for Further Determination by ICP-MS

Abstract: A method for determining low levels of As and Cd by dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was proposed. The following parameters that affect extraction efficiency were investigated: type and volume of extraction solvent (1000 µL acetone), type and volume of dispersive solvent (75 µL carbon tetrachloride), amount of ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate and sodium diethyldithiocarbamate as chelating agents, sample mass (0.5 g in 10 mL ultrapure … Show more

“…At present, the trace amounts of cadmium is mainly analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) [ 2 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ], graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ], inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP–OES) [ 24 ], and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [ 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. Compared with costly analysis technique, such as ICP-OES and ICPMS, FAAS is a conventional technique that has been widely applied in metals analysis because it is a less expensive and simpler alternative technique [ 29 , 30 ].…”

“…Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) is an attractive method that has been used widely in the field of sample preparation since its innovation in 2006 [ 31 , 32 ]. The conventional and modified DLLME methods have been successfully applied to determine the trace amounts of cadmium in various matrices [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ]. Generally, the pre-concentration of cadmium ions requires suitable complexing agents to form metal complexes and obtain high partition coefficients of cadmium between the aqueous phase and organic extraction solvents.…”
