Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is a rare congenital anomaly that is often associated with cardiac malformation. Valve dysfunction usually presents in childhood; therefore, most cases are diagnosed with DOMV in childhood. Its prevalence and prognostic relevance in adulthood are unknown. Here, we report a case of a 38-year-old woman who presented to the outpatient clinic with an abnormal electrocardiogram and was found to have an isolated double orifice mitral valve malformation on transthoracic echocardiography. Echocardiography is the diagnostic tool of choice for patients with double orifice mitral valves. We should familiarize ourselves with the echocardiographic features of DOMV in order to improve the detection.

Митральный клапанный комплекс представляет собой сложный по структуре аппарат, функциональная состоятельность которого зависит от сочетанной работы всех компонентов. Нарушения строения стенки левого предсердия, митрального кольца, створок митрального клапана, створочных хорд, папиллярных мышц и стенки левого желудочка приводят к появлению стеноза или недостаточности митрального клапана. Раннее распознавание аномалий, вызывающих развитие врожденной митральной недостаточности, проводится физикальными и инструментальными методами, позволяющими выявить степень и тяжесть нарушений гемодинамики. Своевременно применяемые разработанные методы лечения позволяют корригировать нарушения строения компонентов митрального комплекса, гемодинамические расстройства и улучшают прогноз жизни пациентов. The mitral valve complex is a structurally complex apparatus, the functional viability of which depends on the combined work of all components. Violations of the structure of the wall of the left atrium, mitral ring, mitral valve leaflets, leaflet chords, papillary muscles and the wall of the left ventricle lead to the appearance of stenosis or insufficiency of the mitral valve. Early recognition of anomalies that cause the development of congenital mitral insufficiency is carried out by physical and instrumental methods, which make it possible to identify the degree and severity of hemodynamic disorders. Timely applied developed methods of treatment make it possible to correct violations of the structure of the components of the mitral complex, hemodynamic disorders and improve the prognosis of patients’ lives.
