Abstract:Resumo: O artigo analisa uma lenda sobre uma criança nascida de ventre livre, Maria Tereza Joaquina, assim como a repercussão daquela história nas gerações subsequentes. Já adulta, ela foi rainha Jinga, nas décadas de 1950, 1960 e 1970, do maçambique de Osório, folguedo popular afrocatólico do litoral do Rio Grande do Sul.
