In vitro cytotoxicity assay of Fucoidan extracted from Turbinaria conoides against cancer cell lines MCF7, A549, and normal cell line L929

Abstract: The main aim of the study is to quantify the cytotoxic property of the Fucoidan extracted from the Turbinaria conoides using the MTT assay with the standard fucose. Fucoidan was extracted using the soaked water method and it was determined using the HPLC procedure the obtained Test sample Fucoidan extracted from the Turbinaria conoides and standard fucose was subjected to the cytotoxicity assay against the MCF7 Human breast cancer cell line, A549 lung cancer cell line, and L929 normal mouse fibroblast cell lin… Show more

“…Different solvents can affect the yield due to the level of polarity. According to Muzaki et al [30], the yield value decreases along with the decrease in the polarity of the solvent. In addition, the solvent will attract bioactive compounds that have the same polarity.…”

“…Both laminarin and fucoidan extracted from Laminaria japonica were injected into mice and observed that the fucoidan showed strong activation of the immune system than laminarin and therefore, fucoidan enhanced the anticancer efficacy against Lewis lung carcinoma 35 . Fucoidan from Turbinaria conoides , had shown significant anticancer activity on MCF-7 (human breast cancer), and A549 (human lung cancer) cell lines, and no cytotoxic activity on L929 mouse fibroblast cell line 36 . Similarly, fucoidan from Sargassim cinereum inhibited the proliferation of CaCo-2 cell line (Colon cancer) on a dose-dependent manner 37 .…”
