The alternative model of silicone for experimental simulation of suture of living tissue in the teaching of surgical technique

Abstract: Purpose: To develop a silicone alternative model of tissue suture simulation to be used in the teaching of surgical technique. Methods: Twelve alternative models of silicone for tissue suture simulation were manufactured and implemented as a tool for suture pattern training of undergraduate medical students of Universidade Federal do Amazonas. Forty-eight students participated in the research. The evaluation of the proposed model was done through a questionnaire using t… Show more

“…Tissue suture can be practised on silicone models (Tab. 5, line 26), some of them implementing simulated blood (da Silva et al, 2019). A recent systematic review of non-biological microvascular surgery simulators found 20 basic prosthetic models, 20 intermediate models, 13 advanced models, and six virtual reality simulators available for microvascular surgery training (Abi-Rafeh et al, 2019; see example in Tab.…”

“…Therefore, institutions are looking for alternative channels for students to practice their skills. One strategy is to adopt simulated patient cases (Kurup et al, 2017;Willemsen-Dunlap et al, 2018;Silva et al, 2019). In this paper, we share our experience of using VR learning tools in pharmacy education in a Hong Kong university.…”

“…A aprendizagem e o aprimoramento de técnicas cirúrgicas básicas, particularmente as suturas, constituem um pilar da formação médico-acadêmica, uma vez que a execução de tais procedimentos é crucial para o médico generalista. Dessa forma, o ensino das práticas cirúrgicas está assumindo diferentes perspectivas conforme a disponibilidade de recursos e os avanços humanos científicos e comportamentais (SILVA, et al, 2019).…”
