Therapeutic potential of hydrolysable tannin on weight management oxidative stress and reproductive health in polycystic rats

Abstract: Phytonutrients get attention now days due to their wide application and their tendency to improve the productive and reproductive performance in humans. Hydrolysable tannin (HT) is one of these bionutrients. The present study was aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of HT on the induced polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in rats. Forty-five adult female rats with 4 to 5 days regular estrous cycle were selected. The PCOS was induced by a single intramuscular injection of Estradiol Valerate 4 mg/rat/kg. T… Show more

“…4 In PCOS patients, the increased levels of serum testosterone were due to the high levels of serum cholesterol as previously reported. 34 However, the intake of the fiber diet reduced the level of cholesterol, which further helped to decrease the synthesis of steroid hormones like testosterone in PCOS females and its conversion into estrogen 35 which was also another finding of the present study. A high decrease in the acne percentage was observed in the PC group and a mild effect was observed in alginate-treated groups SA3 and SA6, respectively (Table 3).…”

“…If HDG pathology was abnormal, LDG and MDG pathology studies were performed. The sectioned tissue was soaked and fixed in 10% formaldehyde buffer, cut into thin sections, dehydrated, and embedded in paraffin, stained with standard hematoxylin and eosin, and examined under light microscope (Manzoor et al, 2022).…”

“…The former refers to the condensation products of hydroxyflavanes, which are interconnected by C-C bonds and are not easy to decompose in water, while the latter is an ester whose ester bond is easy to hydrolyze under the action of alkali, enzyme or acid. Tannin can react with enzymes and metal ions, and is able to combine with proteins, generating pharmacological effects on convergence, anti-inflammation, sedation, anticoagulation, anti-oxidation, and anti-tumor (Manzoor et al, 2022;Ha et al, 2022;Das et al, 2020;Fraga-Corral et al, 2020). What's more, its extensive application can be observed in other various aspects including tanning agents' adhesives, additives, preservatives, and water treatment (Das et al, 2020;Guo et al, 2020).…”
