Comparative analysis of citrus fruits for nutraceutical properties

Abstract: Eight citrus varieties, Citrus sinensis cv (Hamlin, Red blood, Succuri), Citrus limetta (Mosambi), Citrus reticulate (Tangerine), Citrus paradise macfed (Grape fruit), Citrus aurantium and Citrus jambhiri lush, were collected from the Rawalpindi Region of Pakistan. The fruits were washed, sorted, graded, and stored at room temperature till further analysis. The fruits were pulped prior to analysis. 2.2 Chemical analysis Total soluble solid (TSS as °Brix) was determined (Association of Dfficial Analytical Chemi… Show more

“…In addition, the same has also been confirmed through significant correlation observed between estimated bioactive compounds and radical scavenging activity. This correlation has also been reported by different other researchers like; dos Santos et al (2017), Abbasi et al (2019) and Rehman et al (2019). Based upon our investigations, we can say that the guava cultivars are effective free radical scavengers.…”

“…Conversely, Costanzo et al (2020) demonstrated that powered Citrus reticulata seed extract tissue showed the highest antioxidant capacity (55.6 mmol TE/mg FW) compared to Citrus japonica seed extract tissue (3.2 mmol TE/mg FW). The radical scavenging ability of eight citrus seed extracts were investigated (Rehman et al, 2020a). Among them, Citrus jambhiri lush, Citrus sinensis cv.…”

“…In Vietnam, the cultivar 'sweet' orange fruit is grown predominantly in southern provinces of the country as in Mekong Delta. It is an important source of bioactive compounds, including the largest source of ascorbic acid, carotenoids, flavonoids and many other antioxidants (Couto & Canniatti-Brazaca, 2010;Davies et al, 2017;Rehman et al, 2020). It is noted that respiration rate and ethylene production are not remarkable during its ripening period.…”
