Avocado oil as an inducer of the extracellular lipase activity of Kluyveromyces marxianus L-2029

Abstract: Avocado represents one of the most nutritious and consumed foods in Mexico, and its export generates significant profits; because of its fatty acids content, the avocado oil was used as an inducer for the synthesis of extracellular lipases from the non-conventional yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus L-2029. Lipases are able to catalyze acyl glycerides, hydrolyzing them into fatty acids and glycerol; they have several applications in various industries. On order to determine the ideal initial avocado oil concentrati… Show more

“…K. marxianus L-2029 is the KmYJR107Wp lipase(Martínez-Corona et al, 2019).As expected, the KmLIP3p secondary structure is highly hydrophobic, which can be related to the phenomenon of interfacial activation(Casas-Godoy et al, 2009). The position of potential disulfide bridge sites was not recognized in this structure.Hydrolase domains were also recognized in the amino acid sequence of the KmYJR107Wp lipase; DomPred predicted 13 domain sequences, although the alignment of the secondary structure (Figure 5b) of the predicted KmYJR107Wp model, with the YlLip2p lipase from Y. lipolytica determined the presence of nine hydrolase domains (data not shown).…”

“…However, no interaction of this amino acid was observed with any histidine residue in the structure (Figure b), which would be part of the catalytic triad; it is likely that the putative protein encoded by the LIP3 gene is not actually a lipase and may have some other activity. As mentioned above, we have recognized that the only enzyme responsible for the lipase activity of K. marxianus L‐2029 is the KmYJR107Wp lipase (Martínez‐Corona et al, ).…”

“…Effect of concentration of avocado oil to the induction of lipases was also studied by Martínez-Corona et al [2019]. The strain Kluyveromyces marxianus was used in the cultivation.…”

“…For determining the best avocado oil levels in the yeast medium, induction was performed for 24 h using different concentrations. K. marxianus L-2029 accumulated the highest productivity of extracellular lipase at 3.5% v/v avocado oil, pH 6, and 36°C ( Martinez-Corona et al, 2019 ). In another study, the same authors carried out a bioinformatics analysis of genes from K. marxianus L-2029 for the identification and characterization of extracellular lipases.…”
