Academic edition features the persistent willpower of scholars to give part of their time to an endeavor that is frequently a thankless task and subject to intense pressures. Nurtured by the market shift to open access, the daily life of journals and editors revolves around the demands of authors and reviewers, editorial quality, the risks of predatory practices and financial sustainability. However, a major hinge divides academic edition in the commercial circuit from journals indexed in other publishing circuits. To explore this hinge, we first delve into the evaluation criteria applied by the Latin American indexing systems, showing that the academic quality is determined by the anchorage of the editorial team and the publishing institutions. Secondly, we offer an empirical examination of the editors, the publishers, and the structure of 1,971 journals, stressing the differences between diamond and commercial journals, observing editorial teams, publishing institutions, and the incidence of APC charges. Eventually, this paper revisits the dispute of classifications that is behind predatory publishing, showing to what extent it replicates the belief in the backwardness of the journals published outside Scopus and Web of Science, while commercial practices are increasingly affecting the legitimacy of the mainstream circuit.

Internationalization of the training and production of Brazilian Graduate Programs of Political Science

This article analyzes the internationalization strategies of the teaching careers of Brazilian political scientists. Internationalization will be measured in two dimensions: 1) publications and 2) academic training of the teachers. Are the central countries the main destinations of Brazilian political scientists? In the field of Brazilian political science, do the central programs monopolize internationalization or is it also accessible to more recent programs? The hypothesis tested is that internationalization would be linked to the central countries and that core programs would be largely over-represented. The study analyzed 360 researchers linked to political science programs. The hypothesis was only partially confirmed. It was concluded that the peripheral programs also have space in the internationalization of the academic training and in the publication of papers abroad. The main difference found between internationalization dynamics concerns the country of destination for academic training and for paper publication. Academic training is basically concentrated in central countries (US, England and France). Although it is absent in academic training Latin America has an important presence as a focus of the international publication of the researchers examined.

Esta revisão sistemática da literatura aborda a relevância dos cidadãos no contexto do desenvolvimento de cidades inteligentes. Seu objetivo é conduzir uma análise abrangente da literatura sobre o conceito de Cidadãos Inteligentes, buscando elucidar as tendências e direções que essa área de pesquisa tem seguido. A metodologia adotada envolve uma abordagem qualitativa que combina revisão sistemática da literatura e análise de conteúdo categorial indutiva. A pesquisa utilizou as bases de dados Scopus e Scielo para realizar consultas, resultando na identificação de 535 artigos. Após uma avaliação criteriosa, 92 desses artigos foram considerados pertinentes para a investigação. A análise dos dados revela que fatores como educação, infraestrutura, tecnologia e a dinâmica entre governo e sociedade desempenham papéis cruciais não apenas na promoção de Cidades Inteligentes, mas, sobretudo, no desenvolvimento dos cidadãos que residem nesse contexto. Ainda, a análise das características desejáveis nos cidadãos inteligentes destaca a importância da disposição para adotar tecnologias, engajamento social e a incorporação de um estilo de vida sustentável. O estudo enfatiza que a transição para uma cidade inteligente demanda não apenas a implementação de tecnologias inovadoras, mas também a adoção de um modelo educacional que capacite e promova a alfabetização digital dos cidadãos, permitindo-lhes explorar e co-criar valor a partir dessas inovações tecnológicas.
