Dermatosis neglecta

Abstract: Dermatosis neglecta is the name of a skin condition characterized by papules and polygonal plaques, which are sometimes warty, brownish and hyperpigmented, adherent and symmetric, though removable with ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. “…The dermoscopic findings detected in our TFFD cases are in line with data reported in previous eight cases, thus confirming the reliability of dermoscopy in assisting the diagnosis of this condition by showing large polygonal plate‐like brown scales arranged in a mosaic pattern. Moving to DN, two prior dermoscopic reports have been described in the literature, both of them revealing a pattern similar to that of TFFD . However, the diagnosis of DN in such patients was not confirmed by a positive soap water swab test, thereby not ruling out the diagnosis of TFFD.…”

“…Dermatosis neglecta is a dirt-associated condition caused by the failure of washing. [ 1 ] The lesion is usually distributed on the trunk, neck, or shoulders,[ 2 ] showing a hyperpigmented, verrucous surface with adherent scales or crust. Herein, we introduce a case of dermatosis neglecta complicated with alopecia areata on the scalp.…”
